Welcome to alien in London! I began this Substack this September and hope to fill it with endless creativity, honesty and positivity. I am an actress and voice artist by day, but a reader, writer and songwriter by night (and day too, because it’s a slow industry…)
I can’t wait to share thoughts and feelings, as well as favourites (books, movies and tv, articles, fashion, music, etc) with you all, and hopefully get to meet some fellow writers along the way.
Speaking of favourites, you can also find my current newsletter fff on my page. It stands for ‘favourite, fiction, food’, where I share a random favourite, a book recommendation, and a new recipe each week.
What does your title mean?
Though I was actually born and raised in this city, I called this page ‘alien in London’ for a reason. I often feel like I wasn’t meant for a city. I enjoy peace, and the comfort of my home (possibly more than I should). I struggled for so long to uphold friendships because I hate going out in the evenings. I get nervous meeting new people, and heading to work up in town. A lot of the things I should appreciate about living here are things I have grown to fear, and I feel ten times more comfortable in my own skin when I’m able to share those things in my writing. Of course, that’s not all this page is about, but it’s been a good starting point in being vulnerable and hopefully I can offer some solace for others as I do it.
A quick summary of my interests to find my target audience…
The film and music industry - breathtaking actors, a moving stage play, a memorable piece of dialogue in cinema, a lyric that splits me wide open.
Writing about conversations with strangers.
Stacks of Vogue and longing for dresses about £3000 out of my price range.
Summers as romantic as The Summer I Turned Pretty, autumns as cosy as Gilmore Girls, and winters as poetic as Little Women.
Endless book shopping even if I don’t read them until 2 years later.
Baking. Cooking. Then some baking. Maybe some cooking. And then a little baking.
Podcasts from creatives, or ramblers, or both!
Cutting more of my hair every time I swear I won’t do it again.
Vinyl. CDs. Old shit.
Crystals, universal energy, healing and spiritual connection. Meeting people of a similar energy to myself can be hard and this is really important to me :)
A good script or a good audition.
Learning new things. Taking classes, meetings, reading others’ articles.
Dreaming of driving my own car but being too scared to get my license.
